Giuseppe Vassallo is a painter born in Palermo in 1990. In 2015 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo in Design of Expository and Museum Systems, specialising in 2018 at the same Institution. He currently lives and works in Palermo.
Giuseppe is pursuing his own personal artistic path, starting from the study of the Masters from the past, particularly the XVII century. Going from the production of architect Carlo Scarpa to the pictorial compositions of Dutch and Hungarian painter Mondrian and Malevich, up until XIX century European commercial art, the artist reflects on the nature of composition, something which becomes quite evident in his most recent production.
It's more of a stylistic research rather than related to content, made of geometrical cuts, backgrounds and veilings that hide the existing painting, like faces and landscapes. This way, the research for an identity often corresponds to the study of the pictorial means itself.
The artist himself describes his research as follows:
A complex group of images that together form a single vision. In my case, the image - or what I search for inside it - is populated by stagnating situations and eternal silence (...) the figures are defenceless (...) suspended, immersed in a scene where it's impossible to know whether what they're waiting for has yet to happen or has already passed. The wait for a change, a surge from within. You might almost say that all this stillness is nothing more than its opposite: inside there's all the chaos that belongs to the human existence, like a time bomb ready to explode."
