When originality and creativity meet love for nature, the result has the potential to create something as extraordinary as it is unpredictable.
If we add that all of this happens in Sicily, what more could we ask for?
Here we go then: we present you four totally eco-friendly projects made in Sicily, for those who are passionate about nature, or simply want to discover a new but equally charming side of Sicily.
Chi Semina Raccoglie (You reap what you sow): Nature turned into jewels
Let's start with a project born in Castelbuono, because we truly have many exceptional talents to be proud of around here, so we might as well wave our flag a bit. Chi Semina Raccoglie (You Reap what You Sow) is a project born from the mind - and the hands - of 2 young sisters, Ambra and Debora Mediati. Nature here is key, with all its incredible resources, that get transformed into beautiful pieces of jewellery: seeds, beans, peels and acorns, citruses fruits, spices and berries, all embellished with metal and wood details, precious stones or knot work (macrame). The two sisters often use materials that we would normally throw away: they have such an original mind to see the potential of an orange peel, a peach seed or a cinnamon stick, and such talent to give life to what their imagination suggests. There's nothing that's found in nature that can't potentially become an original piece of jewellery, with a unique - and let's not forget, completely ecofriendly - style.
Here on Putia.eu, you'll find necklaces, bracelets and earrings, the result of a careful research in nature and a meticulous composition work.
Elena Scarlata: handprinted Sicilian love
Elena Scarlata's project is born from a deep respect for nature and a constant attempt to prove that it can live in harmony with people. The objects she creates are unique pieces of interior design, for the kitchen or the bathroom. Elena combines her creations with traditional Sicilian elements, and this land provides her with endless inspiration. Each pattern, decoration or detail has a story to tell, and tells it beautifully by remarking the respect due to nature as well. The fabric she uses - organic cotton, linen and hemp - is handprinted, 100% Italian and 100% eco-friendly. The fabric undergoes a treatment that makes it waterproof and stain resistant, so that you get quality and practicality together with an elegant and original style. For the decoration, Elena looks at Sicily and its beauties: patterns that remind of the majolicas, the prickly pear cactus, the pomegranate, etc.
On Putia.eu you'll find travel purses, soap travel bags, oven gloves, pot holders, dish cloths and much more.
Love for Sicily, respect for Nature and self-care: in other words, Saqallìa
Saqallìa is the Arabic word for "Sicily", and it's a project born to put together two, no, three different kinds of love: love for Sicily, love for sustainability and self-love. The result is a line of beauty products that gets its inspiration from Sicily and its raw materials, strictly biological and organic: oranges, lemons, lavender, vegetable and essential oils. Every ingredients is skilfully combined so to best enhance each different scent, especially when applied on the skin.
In addition, there's a special attention towards the environment and its precious resources: everything, from the materials to the final product, passing through the working phases and even the packaging, is the result of artisanal, eco-friendly and plastic free processes.
On Putia.eu you'll find handmade soaps and solid lotions. That's right, solid: it's small bars that you have to rub between your hands, saving space compared to ordinary plastic tubes, not to mention that the product itself lasts longer. They can be used as body, hands or lips lotions.
Malli: eco-friendly t-shirts made with love
Malli is a collection of t-shirts made of 100% eco-cotton whose purpose is that of creating a deep bond between those who give it and those who receive it. A Malli t-shirt doesn't come on its own: you will find it inside a box together with a bookmark and a bond-bracelet. A gift that wants to celebrate emotions rather than individuals. The concept of the t-shirt is based on the legend of the red thread: the idea that once two people are connected, bonded by this thread, nothing can tear it (and them) apart. Therefore Malli, "the first t-shirt with a soul", is an invitation to follow your heart.
Of course, a t-shirt that invites you to let yourself be guided by your emotions couldn't be made with anything less than lots and lots of love, not just for people, but for nature too. The whole production process is completely sustainable, there's no OGM involved and the fabric used is eco-cotton. What you get is a soft and fresh effect on your skin, that you will immediately feel the moment you wear it.
Here on Putia.eu, you'll find two collections, the t-shirt "cuore" (heart), and the t-shirt "sale" (come up). Make your choice and spread some love around you!
