Mimmo (Domenico) Paladino is one of the most important representatives of the artistic movement called Transavantgarde. This movement was theorised and promoted in 1980 by art critic Achille Bonito Oliva and marked the comeback of painting, which had almost disappeared in the 70s.
Beside painting, Mimmo Paladino works with a number of different expressive means: drawing, sculpture and a variety of etching techniques, taking inspiration from different sources (archeological, mythological or stylistic). At some point of his artistic production, the lines between painting and sculture seem to disappear and he begins to apply tridimensional elements on his artworks, only to later experimenting with sculpture itself.
What moves him is a constant curiosity, a taste for "discovery" and the ability to always wonder. "True art - says Paladino - always gives itself as fantasy, ri-elaboration, process. Finally, symbolic transfiguration".
