Vanitas: a symbol that we constantly find in art throughout the history of man: from cave paintings to medieval or baroque pictorial movements, up until contemporary art.
From his presence in literature to Alexander McQueen's collections and Delfina Delettrez's jewels, the skull walks (so to speak) through all different ages. It doesn't seem to mind the time passing, for it itself is time.
The "memento mori" is a very ancient warning: it reminds us all to live each day to the fullest, because life is fleeting, and we must seize the moment. The present is displayed as the focus of attention in the process of creative chaos. A sum of all the centuries, from ancient to contemporary, which come together at last. Vanitas it is then, and Pop.
From the first meaning of the 'subject skull', the new Folk collection draws the 'object skull', bringing it back to its original connotation: Pop and Folk. The collection re-alaborates and re-decorates the lines: there's a hymn to life which emerges from them, made almost tangible thanks to crowns of roses, grapes, laurel leaves and wildflowers.
Each Vanitas is a unique piece, numbered and skilfully made in terracotta and painted ceramic.
Series 1 is composed of 99 pieces, most of them already sold. A second series is in progress: it will be made of 29 pieces, 25 of whose will be decorated by as many artists.
