Description
Pink t-shirts with black writing, rigorously made with a brush, with the unmistakable "Zen", "Libertà ", "Settecannoli", "Cuba" and others among Palermo's districts, worn for the occasion by a melting-pot of young people. The Laboratorio Saccardi, in partnership with PUTIA as the artistic producer of the project, presents "Maglie di Quartiere" (district t-shirts): «An artistic collection for real Palermitans, limited edition of 100 pieces; indeed at 99 - explains Marco Barone - because one is put aside for the Minister of the Interior» (Matteo Salvini).
Beyond any judgment of merit, in fact, Deputy Prime Minister Salvini has accustomed us to a new idea of the politician's look, in which he himself becomes an electoral bulletin board, and t-shirts act as posters. A very simple strategy that has in fact proven effective: wearing a symbol of "territorial complicity" with the audience of the meeting, to foster an understanding and a feeling of common belonging.
It's very little however, compared to the new idea of the Laboratorio Saccardi, which has always been involved in a process of renewal of popular art. «Identity is a value to be understood in scale - says Vincenzo Profeta, one of the two members of the collective - and it is inversely proportional to the zoom level. After the artist t-shirts launched last year, it's time for the district t-shirts' debut. Because wearing a generic "Palermo" would be too little: the sentimental bond becomes strong if you go down to a more intimate level».
The Laboratorio Saccardi is an artistic collective from Palermo which has always been involved in a process of renewal of popular art. It was founded in 2002 and its team members today are Vincenzo Profeta and Marco Leone Barone. Their work should be considered as a new elaboration of popular art in a modern and ironic key.
Among the public works, we remember the monument to Franco and Ciccio (two Sicilian comedians) and the sacred sculpture "Anima Mundi", a Madonna realized with fused euro cents and installed in the facade of the Church of San Ranieri and the Saints Forty Martyrs Pisans of Borremans in the heart of the Capo alla Guilla district of Palermo.
